What Megaways actually does
On an ordinary slot, each reel shows a fixed number of symbols every spin. On a Megaways slot, the number of symbols on each reel changes from spin to spin. A reel might show two symbols on one spin and seven on the next.

Tumbling reels: the feature that often comes with them
Tumbling reels — also called cascading reels — are a separate feature that many Megaways and cluster games include. After a win, the winning symbols disappear and new ones drop in to fill the gaps. If the new arrangement wins as well, it pays again, all within the same spin you already paid for.
Many tumbling games add a multiplier that climbs with each chained win. That is where their big swings come from: most spins end after one tumble, but occasionally a chain keeps going.
